Why we self-destruct and how to stop
In short, we self-destruct because we want to feel good.
It seems a very strange thing to say but wanting to feel good is behind self destructive behavior. Feeling good is natural to us and when we don’t feel good we will do whatever it takes to feel good again.
The problem is that the quick fix we choose makes us feel even worse after the short-term high. It’s dysfunctional because it doesn’t work. Self destructive behavior only makes things worse but it’s the way we’re wired…
In nature we couldn’t fall into this trap. There are no pizza trees, no ice-cream or chocolate trees.
There are no rivers of vodka :-) Read more
The WHY, WHAT and HOW of Change
If I ask you to take some actions, there’s a good chance you’re going to want to know why you should do it.
Fair enough.
But WHY is a big subject and you don’t need to know all the WHY stuff…
If I put all that stuff in the actual book, it would become drawn out and impossible to use. It would feel like a lifetime’s study. And all that is not needed… Read more
Human food
This post about human food is one of the most important. I hope you can find the time to read it and really take it to heart.
There’s no two ways about it, we’re all genetically different. Different races and even individuals vary in how they REACT genetically to the environment.
This really matters because some people just cannot eat certain foods and are much more susceptable to chronic illness like diabetes…
Genetic differences
There are lucky people like the Sardinians who seem to be able to be far more relaxed with their lifestyles because they’re protected by genetic factors thought to be caused by past inbreeding.
On the other extreme are the unfortunate Glaswegians in Scotland, who due to the industrial revolution have a genetic make-up molded by crowded conditions, causing a high rate of childhood disease. This caused FAST selection for “over-active” immune systems, making certain chronic illnesses much more likely in later life. In fact, the life expectency for Glaswegians is very low indeed due to this factor… Read more
Is stress good for you?
Like a lot of conventional “wisdom” I think this little nugget is a load of old TWADDLE.
Stress means not coping or “If you don’t step up, something BAD is going to happen.” Neither scenario is good in my opinion.
BUT proactivity, passion, inspiration, enthusiasm, vision… these are the good guys…
PLEASE don’t buy into the “stress is good for you” myth. It’s not. GET RID OF IT!!!
The only thing stress is good for is in identifying areas of your life that need changing. Big stress needs big change, little stress need a little change. The VOLUME of stress tells you how far out-of-whack your life is… Read more
Take small steps?
One of the big solutions to effective change is to take small steps.
It’s SO important because what most folks are doing will almost certainly keep them stuck.
When we identify a change we want to make and take action, most often we simply fall flat on our face because the change was TOO BIG and that causes pain and misery.
What most people do in this scenario is DOUBLE THEIR EFFORTS… they PICK A BIGGER CHANGE!!!
Seems even funny reading that doesn’t it… illogical. And yet that’s what nearly everyone does… Read more
