How to Remove Chaos From Your Life

Some of the stuff you need to be happy and healthy is obvious. Things like diet and exercise — although these have their own pitfalls to watch out for.

But some things are not so obvious… It can take quite a bit of reflection to connect all the dots and see what’s taking us away from happiness…

Pleasure vs Happiness

You can have both pleasure AND happiness. But the problem I see over and over is equating pleasure WITH happiness. That’s a major problem which can only lead one way… downhill :-)

I got chatting to a guy on my walkabout yesterday… he was on his way back from the bar having called in for his daily 3 pints after his supermarket shop, this time including his favorite rump steak — he eats red meat twice a day.

This is a guy with high blood pressure, gout and arthritis for which he takes a total of 8 pills a day. After a lot of talking, it turns out the thing he wants most is… HEALTH!

Hmmm…

There’s a fundamental battle going on in this guy, and lots of other people I talk to — between the perception and practice of eating and living healthily — which feels like denial of pleasure, and wanting the things you enjoy, the thing you “LIVE FOR”… steak, beer, pizza, chocolate, crisps, soda, etc… Read more

How to Sleep Like a Baby

Your anxiety about bedtime during the day is feeding the problem.

If you’re worrying about whether you’ll fall asleep… well… you probably won’t :-) You’ve put too much pressure on yourself, when it comes to bedtime…

The “wanting” of the sweet sleep you enjoyed in the past is (ironically) pushing it away from you. You’ll only fall asleep when you “don’t care” if you fall asleep. Or of course, when your body is utterly exhausted after a period of restlessness — not good… Read more
