Make Your Fruit Smoothie More Delicious, Quicker to Make and Cost Less

If you’re following the diet in Habit Guide or if you’re just into fruit smoothies, I’ve got a great little tip for you.

Up until recently I’ve been slicing up apples, bananas, berries and cherries to add to my morning smoothie.

Well Mike came over to Ireland for a visit recently and while we were browsing around Tesco’s (a supermarket in the UK & Ireland) we spotted a big bag of frozen Red Berry Smoothie Mix

You get 4 seperate portions in there, with each portion containing a mix of…

  • strawberries
  • red grapes
  • bananas
  • blueberries

So we picked it up and decided to give it a go. Naturally, when we got back to the house I shoved it in my freezer and forgot all about it…

Until today.

And all I can say is WOW!
We’re talking ‘taste sensation’ here :-)

The fact that the fruit is frozen makes the smoothie nice and chilled (the blender seems to have coped with the frozen fruit). And I think the red grapes in there really helped give it a little sweetness… plus of course there was absolutely zero chopping of fruit required.

So I saved some and tried it out on the family. It got a thumbs up from everyone. Somebody actually remarked that it tasted like a McDonald’s strawberry milkshake!

And here’s the kicker.

This bag containing 4 portions (enough for 4 smoothies) was the same price as a single punnet of strawberries– 4 euro something I believe it was. So, much more cost effective on top of everything else.

So wherever you are in the world it’s definitely worth checking out the “frozen fruit” section of your local supermarket.

If you’re in the UK or Ireland and would like to try it out, the name of the product is Red Berry Smoothie Mix and you’ll find it in the frozen fruit section at Tesco’s.

Give it a try and please let me know what you think by leaving a comment below…

Enjoy!

  1. It’s true – I used to drink James’ smoothies because they were healthy. Now I drink them for pleasure!

  2. Hi there,

That sounds great, I’ve been buying and using frozen blueberries, boysenberries, raspberries and blackberries, but have never come across that mix, would be keen to find it. My latest smoothie favorite is to use an avocado in place of a banana base, try it and see what you think!

Just found your site and I’m loving the info. :-)

  3. Hi Smoothie Fanatic, glad you’re liking the site. Hopefully you’ll find the smoothie mix – everyone’s still raving about it here, which is fantastic :)

If you can’t find it I guess you could always just copy the recipe, though the proportions of fruit wouldn’t be the same of course. I haven’t tried avocado in a smoothie yet so will give that a try, thanks! Right, I’m off, I haven’t even had my morning smoothie yet… :-)

People! The supreme fruit to put in your smoothie is the ‘fountain of youth’: dark sweet cherries!!! They add a sweet akin to grapes…try 1 banana/ 1/2 c. frozen cherries/ 1/2 c. raspberries or other lesser sweet berry… plus whey protein…a bit of water or even fresh nutmilk…brazil milk is especailly luxurious!! ;) pure bliss!

  5. Hi Carla, that’s a great tip. I love putting dark cherries in my smoothies. Gives the flavor a whole new ‘edge’ – delicious :-)
