Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food

Poor old Jamie…

The ever-enthusiastic celebrity chef and food missionary has really got his work cut out with this one.

His last valiant effort to improve school canteens hasn’t really made a very big dent has it? Although bless him for trying.

The woman who fed burgers and fries through the school bars to scupper his efforts returns in this show to actually help this time in changing the eating habits of a “typical British town.”

Hmmm not sure Rotherham is typical!! But anyway…

The mountains to climb are HUGE!!

And not surprisingly, after rallying enthusiastically, the end of the program sees Old Habits 1, Jamie 0.

His solutions… teach eight people to cook some simple meals and then they can show two friends… and then they can show two more friends and so on. Hmmm not going to happen. Maybe the next show will show a change of strategy.

The Ministry of Food name comes from the war time ministry which showed TV programs for families living with rationed food, cooking on a very tight budget and all that.

Education is certainly part of what’s needed. We have mums out there who don’t know how to turn the cooker on!!

The old traditions of handing down recipes and cooking skills to the younger generation has gone out the window, partly I suspect with the “liberation of women.” Entirely necessary that women are liberated but a lot of the baby has been thrown out with the proverbial bath water.

These poor mums haven’t got a clue how to feed their kids. One child was living on kebabs and chips.

There’s a gaping void between what we know about nutrition and what’s happening “on-the-ground.”

The true solutions are education, habits, clarity and simplicity. We don’t need recipes. We need quality food and a simple way to make a tasy meal with what’s in the fridge. Recipes are not going to work “on-the ground” except for the good old family sunday roast-up.

One women showed the true problem “I get home from work and I’m absolutely shattered. There’s no time for all this. I need something cheap and quick.”

We are fast becoming a take-away nation. We are killing ourselves and our vitality and happiness with all this crap we are eating.

God bless Jamie but it’s not going to work.

Keep it simple! No recipes! JUST PROPER FOOD! Same “structure” every day. Make healthy eating a no-brainer. That’s the TRUE SOLUTION for healthy eating habits…
