Size Bloody Zero

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

If I see ONE MORE ARTICLE on “Size 0″ I will go mad! How long will the magazines keep printing stuff about it? Surely everyone is sick of it by now? Still, I suppose if it means them writing less about reality TV “celebrities”…

Keira Knightley — absolutely beautiful and naturally slim? No — she is an evil SIZE ZERO!!! It doesn’t matter about her acting ability or her rather refreshing attitude that she doesn’t need to conform physically like most celebs. No — she is a disgrace to women everywhere! A terrible example to teenage girls!!

Quick Keira, stuff yourself full of junk food and get yourself to the plastic surgeon for a boob job immediately!!! If you overdo it though, don’t forget the liposuction…

V******* B****** is another one (Editors note; this is Victoria Beckham). I can’t bring myself to type her name because I am so sick of reading about her. (“Why do you read these magazines then?,” I hear you ask. To be honest, I really don’t know!!!) She makes an effort to be that slim, which in my book means she deserves less sympathy than Ms Knightly, but it’s still her body and her choice — LEAVE HER ALONE!!!

Charlotte Church on the other hand is overweight and is therefore praised by the trashy mags for being a good example — most of the time. Occasionally she has “let herself go” apparently. Kerry Katona — another often pictured celeb who has piled on at least 2 lbs too! She should stop focusing on her kids and instead use her time more productively at the gym and beauty salon. She has her priorities all wrong, silly girl…

I had to laugh at the recent TV program on the subject, in which the singer Louise Rednapp in one program and two journalists in another starved and exercised themselves down to a size zero so that we could all be horrified by the results.

Firstly, being a size zero isn’t all about crash-dieting and mad exercising. You could achieve size zero much more slowly and therefore without the psychological side-effects if you really wanted to. But I’m sure lots of teenage girls picked up some good tips from those programs as to how to starve themselves and probably pick up an eating disorder into the bargain.

Secondly, the whole idea of us being horrified by someone of size zero proportions is somewhat ruined when the end results are viewed on wide-screen TV, which as we all know adds pounds. I was surprised to find myself thinking that although they looked fine at their original heavier weight, they actually looked better as size zeros!!! And others agreed with me!!

I will never have the problem of striving to be so slim. For a start I am too old to worry about such things, secondly I don’t want to be miserable, and thirdly my hips were definitely designed for childbirth not white jeans :-) If I’m overweight my top half looks OK and my bottom half looks horrendous. If I lose weight my bottom half looks better but my top half looks emaciated.

Having got my backside off the sofa though and got myself into a fit enough state to run marathons, I find that I’m less bothered about what I look like. I also find that I have better quality cellulite :-) There are many people worse off than me and no one is perfect (except Johnny Depp).

The point is that the important thing is to be healthy, which I luckily am.. Being fit is a good idea and looking good would be a bonus. And that should be the order of importance.

  1. I’d just like to agree that YES Keira Knightley is gorgeous just as she is. Leave her alone all you evil media people! (Well, you can write nice stuff :-)

Ha… Just last nite on TV, during a mainstream documentary / news show… on came a piece about “size zero”.

    I turned the TV off.

How can so few people influence so many?

And who keeps buying this stuff?

  3. Hiya Jim! Great to see you on here :-) People just love controversy don’t they? As we know. Solid health advice just doesn’t press our emotional buttons eh?

The most popular post on passionforhealth.org is by far “The Great Goji Juice Controversy”.

Remember your excellent post that had great health advice and not ONE comment? This stuff sells newspapers and ups TV ratings. Plus, this kind of thing is hot news what with all the pro-anorexia website shockers and all the recent fuss about models BMI’s.

    Take Care Jim,

  4. But if you stop reading the trashy magazines, you might lose sight of how evil Keira Knightly is (and what a godess Charlotte Church is).

Everyone knows that trashy magazines are the new bible, that Charlotte Church is the new Jesus and that size zero is like, Judas or something.

But overall I agree with you, Johnny Depp is perfect and if I wasn’t me I’d be him. In fact, I am him on the weekends.
