How to Sleep Like a Baby

Tassu asks…

“My worst problem is sleep. All day I think about whether I’ll fall asleep at night or not. When night comes I dread it…

I do feel sleepy and my eyelids go heavy, but I end up just closing my eyes for hours, without falling asleep. Any advice to cure my fear? I miss the nights when I sweetly use to fall asleep.”

Your anxiety about bedtime during the day is feeding the problem.

If you’re worrying about whether you’ll fall asleep… well… you probably won’t :-) You’ve put too much pressure on yourself, when it comes to bedtime…

The “wanting” of the sweet sleep you enjoyed in the past is (ironically) pushing it away from you. You’ll only fall asleep when you “don’t care” if you fall asleep. Or of course, when your body is utterly exhausted after a period of restlessness — not good… Read more

Anxiety at Night

Chaeedy asks…

“I’ve been practicing the meditation 5 days a week (weekends are tough) in the morning, and it seems to be making a difference. Was feeling better, living in the ‘Now’, and to be honest, much fewer thoughts (in fact, very few).

But over the last 2-3 weeks I’m fine during the day, but when I turn off my light at night, I get this overwhelming anxiety/dread/terror feeling. It’s nothing specific, just the feeling. I don’t let my mind dwell/race on some concerning thought (staying in the now) so it’s not that. But it’s brutal! It just doesn’t seem to make sense… Any ideas/suggestions?”

I assume your soul is tidy?

i.e. you aren’t viewing your life in any way as unacceptable or stressful, and you see that a thing only matters inasmuch as it moves you towards or away from health and peace of mind…

So, assuming you aren’t fuelling the fire with insane thoughts about success, and that your good health habits are in place, then we’re left with old conditioning… Read more

The No. 1 Tip for Refreshing Sleep

© Planetchopstick

Habit Guide is about the BIG STUFF and there’s not much you can do that will give you a bigger reward for no effort than QUALITY SLEEP.

It’s LITERALLY re-charging your batteries, so if you want full charge, be sure to leave yourself charging for the whole night!

There’s lots of reasons why we struggle to simply GET TO BED ON TIME…

Life is a rhythm

Your body ADORES rhythm. It adores knowing what’s coming and that includes the types of foods it’s going to get and when, when it’s going to exercise and most importantly when it’s going to SLEEP… Read more

Lifestyle choices that affect health

Andrew writes…

“I was just reading your e-mail again. It made me think how similar it is to my situation.  When you say ‘As I recovered from 13 years of no joy’, it totally made me think of how I have been for at least the last 7 years.

Although I believe that meditation will definitely help me along the way, I’ve begun to think that one think I really need to cut back on is alcohol.

It’s incredible how it can make you feel great at night after a few drinks, but then you wake up at 2-3 in the morning with this acute anxiety for no reason at all!  And of course, when combined with stress, it all goes to hell. Anyway, just thought I’d pass that along.  Thanks for the note.”

Yes, Habit Guide talks about how alcohol helps you get to sleep but disturbs your sleep QUALITY. It’s a problem.

Meditation is PART of being happy but we can’t cherry pick. The six elements when in place are the causes of health and happiness. I have NO doubt about it. None whatsoever…

Habit Guide lays out the finish line and there’s plenty of ways to individualize it for yourself. If you could really SEE your finish line clearly and step towards it, you’ll be taking the fastest route to happiness.

You’re right when you say “it all goes to hell.” And the reverse is also true. When you do things in line with what your genes expect, it all goes to heaven :-) Read more
