What is chronic inflammation? Everyone seems to be talking about it…
Is it just the latest angle, the latest “thing to be fixed?”
Is it just the latest buzz to draw in new punters?
Inflammation is your body’s natural response to infection or injury. But it’s when this normal response carries on for a long time that the problems start.
Auto immune diseases are associated with chronic inflammation, as is any disease ending in “-itis” like arthritis…
To be honest it’s a big problem for the same reason all chronic illnesses are a big problem — our lifestyles are unnatural! Everything we take into our bodies and even our emotions will either create or reduce inflammation in our bodies. A huge amount of modern lifestyles factors are “pro-inflammatory.”
The causes of chronic inflammation
As strange as it may seem to health-conscious folk, most people do not connect health to what they put in their mouths. The reason for this is that it takes a long time for the body to finally break. It’s amazing how much it will put up with!
Just like a lot of areas of health or any other angle, if you try to do your own research on the causes of inflammation, you can quickly get bogged down in the extraordinary complexity with which your body deals with things like this — you’ve got this hormone triggering this response, white cells here, chemicals there. You can imagine.
I find the “pill for an ill” mindset so frustrating… it’s all ONE cause. We don’t need a hundred diets for a hundred different illnesses. Just the one will do — the one that will prevent inflammation, cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes and all the other chronic illnesses.
I find it frustrating that with all the human suffering and with all the human resources available in the modern world that experts still can’t agree on what we should eat. You know — cows eat grass, monkeys eat bananas… how hard can it be?!! (Actually monkeys don’t eat bananas but that’s for another time).
The causes of inflammation? Stress, sugar, saturated and trans-fats, too much coffee, white baked goods, high glycemic foods in general, not enough fruit and veg, wrong ratio of essential fats, allergens like gluten (grains) and casein (dairy).
The solution to inflammation
The truth is that chronic inflammation causes a lots of things to go wrong in your body and it’s something you definitely want to avoid.
The solution is to check those health boxes every day and eat one diet that is designed to cover all the healthy eating boxes in a simple way.
The good news is that the inflammation story may well make a lot of people wake up to the horrors we inflict on ourselves on a daily basis.
