Quantum Leap or Baby Steps?

© bettina n

Sometimes it’s better to take a quantum leap (big change) and sometimes baby steps.

99% of the time though, baby steps are better.

That’s because your ability to follow through depends on your level of commitment.

Thinking about where you are right now — how committed are you? How much “backlash” are you willing to take?

If the answer to that is “not much” then baby steps are the way to go. If there’s no urgency to change, baby steps can still take you to a happy and healthy place, with very little in the way of discomfort…

It amazes me how time flies — the weeks go by quickly! If you make a little change each week then it soon mounts up.

One of the big mindset issues with change is the association of change with pain. If we’re not careful we can end up fearing change, HATING it. This is because we attempt too much in one go.

But when you take baby steps the opposite is true… you start to believe in yourself, you see that change is easy, you become excited by the possibilities and you start to see light at the end of the tunnel…

“These little steps will get me there! This is really going to happen.”

If you invest some regular attention to it and take it to heart, Habit Guide will supercharge your ability to manage change. You’ll soon begin to get WINS and believe you can finally have what you may have struggled to get in the past.

All the best,

    Michael,

Thanks for this reminder. I have been challenged by my inability to stick with big changes in my diet. My heart is in the right place… but I know that, for the most part, I am pretty healthy and not overweight so my commitment wavers. But I do want a happier tummy (digestive issues) and a more consistent feeling of being slim and sexy and energetic — not to mention feeling productive in meeting my life goals. So, this reminder of baby steps is helpful because it seems more doable and less overwhelming.

You are so right about how time flies!

    Thank you!

  2. Hi Cynthia,

Lovely to hear from you and many thanks for your comment :-) Yes, doable is the way to go isn’t it? And “slim, sexy and energetic” sounds like a wonderful “finish-line.”!! Who would say no to THAT feeling :-)

The “time” thing really hit me when I had clients to train, one-to-one. I would see them once a week and set weekly targets etc. It seemed like no time at all before the next meet-up. And when they were focused and motivated, the little weekly changes got great results in how they looked and felt a few months down the line.

    Thanks again Cynthia,
    Mike
